The art of Haiku

Haiku is a poetic form from Japan. It is the shortest form of poetry in the world, usually written over three lines. You may have heard about haiku and how an entire piece spans seventeen syllables (laid out in three lines of five, seven, five syllables.)

The whole five-seven-five thing isn't as straightforward as you might think. Much has been written on the topic, so I won't repeat it here.

In fact, the whole website is a treasure trove of haiku information.

February is National Haiku Writing Month (NaHaiWriMo). Shortest month for the shortest poetry.

While 2020 is the tenth anniversary of NaHaiWriMo it is the third year I have contributed, via the NaHaiWriMo Facebook group.

I will share some of my haiku on this blog.
